GALLATIN – Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency’s Last-Minute Toy Store made sure a number of Sumner County children had smiles on their faces this Christmas morning.
Through its partnership with area businesses and organizations, the non-profit agency provides Christmas toys for less-fortunate families.
“Christmas can be an overwhelming time for families struggling to make ends meet, especially families with children expecting toys from Santa,” said Kreda Yokley, executive director of MCCAA. “Last-Minute Toy Store is our effort to make sure children have a magical Christmas.
“Thanks to the generosity of our partners, kids from the families we serve had gifts to unwrap on Christmas morning.”
Since 1971, MCCAA has provided a number of home energy assistance, medical support, transportation, rental, mortgage and utility assistance, and nutritional services to Middle Tennessee families. Agency programs include Head Start and Early Head Start, Self-Sufficiency and Income Tax Preparation. The agency services eight Mid-State counties, which include Cannon, Cheatham, Robertson, Rutherford, Sumner, Trousdale, Williamson and Wilson.
Area businesses and organizations that contributed to MCCAA’s toy drive include Bledsoe Baptist Association, Gallatin First United Methodist Church, Victory Assembly of God in Hendersonville, the Hendersonville chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity, Bob Epley and Toys for Tots, Ricky Black, Cook’s Pest Control and the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
“MCCAA has a limited amount of resources,” Yokley explained. “That’s why we are so grateful for our community partners.
“Without them our agency couldn’t provide to our families nearly the amount of services we do. We appreciate the support we get from the community for all of our programs, not just the toy drive,” she added.
