Mid-Cumberland Community Action Agency is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping families and individuals achieve self-sufficiency. The agency does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, national origin, color, sex, age, disability, or veteran status.


Programs
MCCAA Programs and Services  

Retired Senior Volunteer Programs
Recruits senior citizens as volunteers to help schools, nursing homes, senior-citizen centers and other service organizations. More than 400 volunteers serve in MCCAA's RSVP program. People 55 and older with a myriad of experiences and interests from all economic backgrounds serve in the program.

Medical-Support Program
Provides assistance to those who do not have prescription drug insurance coverage. Also helps eligible participants with receiving medical supplies.

Self-Sufficiency Program
Assists low-income families to set and meet goals that promote self-sufficiency and help eliminate causes of poverty. Also available to eligible participants is free electronic filing of income-tax returns.

Nutrition Programs
Provides non-perishable food items to eligible people and families through a collaboration and partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Tennessee Emergency Food Assistance Program. Teaches proper nutrition and helps participants make wise decisions with their food stamps. Also helps people reduce grocery expenses by teaching them how to grow gardens.

Emergency Services Program
Provides financial assistance and counseling to people and families who need emergency help with housing and utility costs.

Housing Program
Provides housing-repair assistance for septic systems, safe water supply and the construction of wheelchair ramps.

Transportation Program
Provides down-payment assistance to eligible participants who purchase a reliable, used automobile to get back and forth to work. Also provides financial assistance with minor automobile repairs required to keep vehicle in working condition.

Low-Income Home-Energy Assistance Program
Assists low-income households with payment of heating and cooling costs. Emergency energy assistance is available for vulnerable households.

Weatherization Program
Assists low-income families, senior citizens and the disabled to lower home-energy costs through the installation of proper building materials, which improve energy conservation and efficiency.

Head Start and Early Head Start
Provide comprehensive development services to low-income children under the age of 5 and social services to their families. The national programs not only strive to enhance children's physical, social, emotional and cognitive, but they also aim to make parents better caregivers and teachers for their children.

Linkages
Searches the community for links with other public and private entities to complete the continuum of care for low-income residents.
